Most chronic illnesses contribute from our lifestyle choices. The focus is to prevent chronic illnesses from occurring. The most common preventable chronic conditions include, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Lifestyle medicine intercedes by preventing these conditions by addressing nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, risky habits and mindset. Our team looks for root causes that underly the symptoms and signs of chronic illness. Together we look at you as a whole to prioritize your needs and concerns.
- Nutrition: Focus on whole food, minimizing processed foods and excess sugar. Selecting foods rich in fiber and nutrient dense. Choose lean meats, poultry, fish, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, beans and lentils, whole-grains, nuts and seeds.
- Exercise: Do regular physical activity that includes cardio health as well as improving strength, flexibility and mobility. Find what you enjoy doing and start there. Movement (different for everyone) is the best variable to long-term health.
- Sleep: Quality sleep improves, energy, focus, cell rejuvenation, stress reduction and better metabolism. Sleep has become the most notable factor to improving overall health.
- Stress: Across all ages, stress is higher today than ever. Stress from emotions, anxiety, depression can be a contributing cause to many chronic conditions. We help find coping strategies to manage negative stress and create positive outcomes.
- Risky Habits: Substance abuse such as drugs, alcohol, smoking can be a barrier to moving forward in your health, relationships, and productivity. With confidence and care, we work to see how you can redirect these risky habits to outcomes more favorable to you.
